Established as Malawi AIDS Counselling and Resource Organization to address the growing HIV/AIDS crisis in Malawi. Our first office opened in Lilongwe with just 5 staff members and a vision to make quality HIV services accessible to all Malawians.
Launched our first HIV testing clinic in Lilongwe, pioneering rapid testing in Malawi. Served over 2,000 clients in the first year, providing confidential counseling and testing when stigma around HIV was at its peak.

Expanded services to all three regions of Malawi with support from PEPFAR. Established clinics in Blantyre and Mzuzu, creating a national network of HIV care and support services that reached thousands more Malawians.
Began providing antiretroviral therapy (ART) to patients, transforming HIV from a death sentence to a manageable condition. This marked a turning point in Malawi's HIV response, with MACRO at the forefront of treatment access.
Launched mobile testing units and community health worker program to reach rural populations. This innovative approach brought services directly to hard-to-reach communities, significantly increasing testing and treatment uptake.
Celebrated 20 years of service with recognition from the Ministry of Health for our contributions to Malawi's HIV response. By this time, MACRO had become one of Malawi's most trusted health organizations.
Expanded to offer comprehensive health services including cervical cancer screening, family planning, and non-communicable disease management. This holistic approach addressed the full spectrum of community health needs.
Implemented electronic health records and telemedicine services to improve patient care and data management. These technological advancements positioned MACRO as a leader in health innovation in Malawi.
Celebrating three decades of service with over 1 million lives touched through our programs. As we look ahead, MACRO remains committed to health equity, innovation, and community-centered care for the next 30 years.

When my village was first visited by MACRO's mobile clinic in 2013, it changed everything. Before that, we had to walk 20km to access HIV testing. Now my whole family gets regular checkups and my grandchildren are growing up HIV-free thanks to MACRO's prevention programs.
