About MACRO

The Malawi AIDS Counselling and Resource Organization (MACRO) is a leading Malawian organization established in 1995. MACRO has been instrumental in supporting the Malawi government's efforts to combat HIV/AIDS and its impacts.

As a pioneer of HIV rapid testing, MACRO has significantly contributed to Malawi's public health response by implementing targeted HIV prevention, testing, care, and treatment interventions.

Through our vision of a Malawian populace free of ill health, MACRO provides comprehensive services comprising HIV testing, ART provision, cervical cancer screening for women living with HIV, community education, stigma and discrimination reduction, and resource mobilization.

MACRO is guided by its mission of transforming lives through high-quality health services and has played a crucial role in reducing HIV transmission, improving the quality of life of those affected, and empowering communities.

Over the past three decades, MACRO has collaborated with Malawi's Ministry of Health and international organizations such as CDC, USAID, JHPIEGO, EGPAF, BANTWANA, Right to Care, Frontline AIDS, and local community-based organizations.

MACRO also provides capacity building to healthcare workers and community cadres from both private and public institutions to support the provision of quality HIV services through culturally acceptable modalities across Malawi.

Our Impact

MACRO has achieved significant milestones in its commitment to improving the health of Malawians:

• Provided HIV testing and counseling to over 413,000 Malawians since inception.
• Identified 46,458 HIV-positive clients and linked 43,435 positive clients to care and treatment, aligning with Malawi's 95-95-95 targets.
• Screened 12,820 women for cervical cancer through Visual Inspection of Cervix using Acetic Acid (VIA), with 188 women treated following positive VIA results.
